NC CPS Update/Refresher Class

Information

Eligible Participants:

Current Nationally Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians and Technician Instructors.

Maximum numbers of students may be set for individual classes. Registration is required for the Update/Refresher classes.

Objectives:

• To define the role of a CPS technician
• To review current child passenger safety best practices
• To review North Carolina’s Child Passenger Safety Law
• To become familiar with “real life” Tether/LATCH issues
• To recognize new products in the field

This Class Will:

• Provide current technicians with the opportunity to view new products and further improve skills
• Provide continuing education units (CEUs) for recertification. The number of CEUs offered may vary according to the agenda planned by the instructor team and needs of the local program(s) hosting the class.

This Class Will Not:

• This Class will not satisfy ALL requirements for recertification.
• Technicians will still need to complete 2 hours of clinic time or provide at least 4 hours of community education.
• These classes will NOT provide Technicians with the opportunity to have their skills verified by an instructor. Technicians will need to have seek out other opportunities to have their skills verified by an instructor.
• Refer to CPS Technician Recertification for complete recertification information including skills verification and locating an instructor.
  

Registration Fee:

In general there is no registration fee for attending North Carolina Update/refresher classes, but registration is required. Local programs may charge a small fee to help cover costs associated with classes they sponsor. On-site registrations will not be accepted without prior approval by the Lead Instructor.

Class Schedule:

Most upcoming Update/Refresher classes are shown on the NC CPS Update/Refresher Class Registration page. Some classes require that participants register through the sponsoring acency. Refer to the NC CPS NC Update/Refresher Class Schedule for a complete list of classes to be offered.
