
Basic CPS Educational Class

The goal of
Child Passenger Safety (CPS) Basic Training course is to create
an awareness of the importance of child passenger safety education
in preventing deaths and injuries to children in car crashes. The focus of this program is primarily on child restraints, but
seat belt use for children and adults is discussed as well. Participation in a Basic Awareness class does not result in any type of certification.
By the end of the course, participants
should be able to:
- Understand and explain state law
vs. best practice
- Educate others on child passenger
safety issues
- Detect child passenger safety violations
- Identify resources
- Be able to say, "I don't know"
when necessary
- Provide basic instruction to parents
on correct child restraint use
- Assist at a child safety seat checkup
clinic
Participants will NOT be able to:
- Serve as a Senior Checker at a Child
Passenger Safety event
- Set up and coordinate a child passenger
safety clinic without guidance of a Certified Technician
- Serve as a technical expert for
the media
- Operate child restraint distribution
program
