NC Seat Belt Law - G.S. 20-135.2A
Difference between what is legal and what is recommended

updated 08-15-11

Most drivers and passengers of all ages in most vehicles are covered by North Carolina occupant restraint laws (either the Child Passenger Safety law or Seat Belt Law). However, ALL occupants in ALL seating positions in ALL vehicles equipped with seat belts should ride buckled up to help protect all occupants. Unbuckled occupants can injure buckled up occupants as well as themselves when they are thrown around or out of the car in a crash.

At no age or size should any child or adult ride unrestrained in a vehicle or ride in a non-belted position such as the back of a station wagon or bed of a pickup truck.
